Today, the day before one of our country's most historic inaugurations, is the holiday honoring the birthday of one of America's greatest change agents - Martin Luther King, Jr. His life's work, culminating with his speech "I Have A Dream" delivered Aug. 28, 1963 from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to over 250,000, changed the course of history. We will celebrate Barack Obama's inauguration due to the work of Dr. King and the millions of blacks and whites whom he inspired. Today I am thinking about how my life would be different would it not be for Dr. King. As a white woman, it's not obvious. In fact, he changed the world for all of us - both personally, and as citizens of America and the world. Let's not take today for granted. I urge you to Google Dr. King and his "I Have a Dream" speech. Take a moment or two to acknowledge and share how his work change you and opened possibilities for us all. And then get ready to celebrate a new beginning tomorrow, when our new President will officially take the reigns of leadership

Thank you for your post today it is sooo true for many of us and I am inspired by your desire to share.  Today and tomorrow are very inspiring for me as a black woman.  I was 6 years old when that speech was made and I don't remember it - but I do remember the "feeling" in my home.  I was very aware of who he was and the movement of civil rights at that age.  I am grateful for those who came before me that have helped to pave the way.  My grandfather was many first in the Detroit Fire Department and as I researched him online today - it made me soo proud of my own family heritage at time when history is truly bein created.

Because of the fight for us to have a right to vote - I never miss the honor as it was not always a priviledge for my people.  I think Obama brings so much hope and inspiration with the understanding that we all must step up to make a difference for his message and meaning to truly be realized - he is a member of this game that we are all playing and I look forward to a brighter, more successful, more economic time for each and every one of us.
