If you're like me, you were mesmerized by every word, every sight, every nugget or information about our new President's Inauguration. Having attended 2 previous inaugurations, I chose to enjoy this one in front of my HDTV. Watching it today, I had regrets about not experiencing the extraordinary energy that I could almost feel emanating from the TV. On the other hand, as an information junkie, I feel very satisfied to have experienced so much of this Inauguration albeit via the tube. Our new President is extraordinarily inspiring....and I believe that he will be an effective leader. That's why I have come up with a new name for our new economy, which begins today -- Obama-nomics. There were two parts of President Obama's "straight-talk" address to all Americans, that I felt particularly addressed those of us leading businesses....you might call them Obama-nomics. Allow me to share with you: "In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of shortcuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted — for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things — some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.......... Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends — hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism — these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility — a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task." Oh, yes, our task may be difficult. But we are up to it. Remember, you don't have to do it alone. We have each other to lend support. Women's Leadership Exchange will be coming to cities around the country to help you. What are you going to do to put OBAMA-NOMICS into action? I'm sorry.....have I missed something in the past 60 years!  Perhaps it is that courage, integrity and honesty, perseverance, wisdom, responsibility, confidence, decency, leadership, team work, compassion,  discipline, work ethics, loyalty are characteristics that I was raised on and carry with me every day year after year after year.

These characteristics are at work in my personal life as well as my business life, perhaps how I've helped grow a business from $0 to a worth of $1.7B.

I've come to the conclusion that the President is speaking to some portion of society, and where I live and work is far ahead of the game.

I think your comment is right on the target. Great, it talks about commitment; I would only add the word decency, as one of the words that have been missed lately from the economic and business arena and, as you mentioned, our role as society
But although the term OBAMA.NOMICS seems appropriate, his inclination looks more as a “centralized” and “Government solution and problem solving” without really involving the society to act. Kind of “paternalistic” model that I am not sure will solve the issue of Society participation and responsibility, or take it away.
Congratulations for a great article.
