Speed coaching for businesswomen

Eyewitness News' Lauren Glassberg
(New York-WABC, Nov. 1, 2006)

Women are helping other women succed in an interesting new program.

Maybe you've heard of speed dating, when a group of single people take turns meeting each other usually for 5 to 10 minutes at a time to figure out if there's a connection. Well, now there's speed coaching for those in the business world -- women in particular.

"We believed for many years being customers that they were the most fantastic cookies we'd ever eaten sort of phenomenal,"

Heather Sue Mercer said. Heather Sue Mercer and her two sisters jumped at the chance to buy Rose Et Violette, a tiny bakery in Hells Kitchen -- so tiny they're busting at the seams.

"We want everyone to try the cookies, but we can't bake it in this eight foot wide shop," Mercer said.

So Heather Sue ended up at a speed coaching seminar hosted by some industry superstars. They're all women and they're here sharing their secrets of success.

New Yorkers, Leslie Grossman and Andrea March, started the women's leadership exchange four years ago, and this year they launched the speed coaching portion. Women looking to succeed meet with those who already have. The meetings last five minutes and then it's on to the next coach.

It's an opportunity to gleen information about marketing, sales, finance and franchising. Heather Sue knows that her Ruby Et Violette cookies have the right ingredients. Now with speed coaching, she's hoping to have an improved recipe for success.

"It's great talking to women ... helps our company," she said.

The Women's Leadership Exchange® is hosting a speed coaching event this coming Monday in Manhattan. The cost is $350 dollars, which includes three meals, the coaching, seminars and guest speakers -- including Carly Fiorina formerly of Hewlett Packard.
